capitol building will president obama will make his inaugural address this morning in front of hundreds of thousands of on lookers. president obama's seconds term now underway. as mandated by the constitution. the president was officially sworn no office on january 20th, less than 24 hours ago. john roberts administered the oath during a private ceremony at the white house. unlike four years ago, this time they got it right. no do over needed. the ceremonies coincide with the national holiday of dr. martin luther king. president obama will be sworn in with two bibles, one owned by martin luther king jr. and the other by abraham lincoln. the president and his family will attend a private prayer service at st. john's church across the street from the white house. at 10:00, the president heads to the white house to have coffee with congressional leaders. then at 11:55 a.m., the main vent. president obama will take the oath of office with the help of chief justice john roberts.

today is expected to take on a less than euphoric tone of four years ago yet they're still going to hit on familiar themes like overcoming the bitter political divide in washington. senior obama adviser offered this preview. >> i think it's going to be a hopeful speech. i'll let the president speak for himself, obviously. but what he's going to do is i think remind the country that our founding principles and values still can guide us in a changing and modern world. he's going to talk about the fact that our political system doesn't require us to settle all of our differences. but it doesn't compel us to act where there should and in his common ground. >> organizers are also expecting far fewer people compared to more than the 1.5 million who were here back in 2009. vice president biden was also sworn in for a second term yesterday, a small group gathered at the vice president's residence. justice sonia sotomayor administered the oath of office.

biden and obama honored the fallen soldiers at arlington's national sen taker ycemetery. president obama begins his second term with a global economy no longer in free fall. the current unemployment rate back to where it was when he first took office, 7.8%. the dow jones industrial average, now up more than 5,000 points compared to where it was in 2009. but also up, way up, the national debt. ballooning from $10 trillion during the first inauguration to more than $16 trillion yesterday. yesterday david axelrod said growing the economy is a priority for this administration. >> there is a larger priority, how do you create an economy, rebuild an economy in which the american dream, the american compact is fresh where people who work hard feel like they can get ahead. and that's not just about dealing with the fiscal crisis. it's about education. it's about research and development. it's about controlling our

energy future. all of these are part of the equation. >> president obama has outlined debt reduction as a top priority heading into the second term. also high on his list, immigration reform. putting more emphasis on developing renewable energy and the most urgent for the president, gun control. joining us now, jim vandenhike. so we got done with the first term. bipartisanship towards the end, incredible. any reason why that will change? >> zero. >> okay. >> i would love to be optimistic. i think we should be slamming the blacken ambers they serve up here as you think about the next four years. largely because we already saw in the last two months in the lame duck how the next two years will unfold. and that is a republican congress and a zero interest in doing the obama agenda and a president who has zero interest in the republican agenda. i look at the first 100 days as

the 100 days from hell. he has to deal with sequestration, whether or not we lift the debt limit and whether we continue to fund the government at the current spending levels. then he's going to try to do gun control. you look broadly and say something's changed with the public. i think that's true. you see some movement towards more support for gun control. >> let's talk specifics. let's go through each of these as we go throughout the next four years. you tell me what you think can actually be accomplished and what really has no chance at all. let's go first to the gun control legislation and the specific goals of the president. lawmakers on sunday talk shows, the hot topic once again. they offered a glimpse on how difficult it might be to get gun reform passed through congress. listen up. >> what i don't sthi constructive is what the president is doing right now which is within minutes of that horrible tragedy in newtown. the president began trying to exploit that tragedy, to push a gun control agenda that is designed to appeal to part zanz, designed to appeal to his

political partisans. number one, it would have done zero to prevent the crime in newtown. number two, many of the provisions are contrary to the constitutional protection of the second amendment. but number three, they don't work. >> i think those of us in the pro gun safety movement should accept the heller decision and say there is a constitutional right to bear arms and no less important than the right to free speech. just on the first amendment, we say you can't scream fire in a crowded theater falsely, we have anti-pornography laws, we have anti-libel laws, there are reasonable limitations. and some in the pro gun movement and the nra in many instances doesn't believe in any limitation at all. that is not unconstitutional. that just is dumb. >> so, jim, sounds like the president is going to go bold on gun control wlachlt can you get through congress? >> i don't think he can get anything. there is a slight chance. >> any changes in the law at all? >> no. i think there is a slight chance can you do something on background checks.

can you hardly find sang will republican, remember republicans control the house, that have any interest in doing anything on gun control. we talked to a bunch -- there's only a few moderate republicans left. the moderate republicans in suburban districts, even those in pennsylvania in the northeast corner of the country, they said by 9-1 they're hearing from the constituents not to do anything on gun control. they say they're not hearing anything of the stuff that media is talking about and they have no interest in bringing a bill to the floor. i don't know harry reid who is in nevada, doinlt know that i d wants to bring a bill to the floor. he has outside groups and he'll use that to try to get something done. you think about washington, you have to think about the congress you have not the congress you want. >> okay. >> the congress you have is one that is resisting. >> that sounds like we'll get nothing done in four years. >> i think the next two years is going to be difficult to get anything done. they have to do a budget at some point. >> let's talk about that.

>> joe is always harping on the fact it's 1,363 days since the democrats passed a budget. yesterday chuck schumer hinted that may change. let's listen. >> in our budget that we will pass, we lift tax reform, which went many of my republican colleagues' way, but it's going to include revenues. it's a great opportunity to get us some more revenues to help in part deal with sequestration. >> so where does this fit in? >> i think where republicans have a legitimate critique of democrats is that democrats have not presented a budget in four years. if you look back at history is an irresponsible way of budgeting. it's how we would have budgeted in washington or college. maybe they won't present one, maybe they will. they have to at some point. the continuing operations of the government that bill expires in march. we have to do something. the big one is the debt limit. do we lift the debt limit so you can continue to borrow more

money to fund the government? republicans are coming to the conclusion that they'll figure out a way to do that. even that's not a given. republicans have had it with spending. they feel they're going to use these leverage points, even ones that really could have, i think, a catastrophic effect on the economy. they're willing to use those to jam their agenda through. they feel like they're getting nothing. >> they want to hear about immigration reform? you don't think there is any chance on that? >> i think immigration is one issue where i think there can be progress. they say we can't continue to win 27% of the hispanic vote and win at the national level. the one thing i would watch in this debate is what happens with marco rubio? he tried to take a lead on this issue. you suggested there may be a pathway to citizenship. that is the whole deal. >> so do immigration reform because it will help them in the next election? >> i think there is a huge political calculation. the question is does rubio do it? he has so much -- he has such good credentials with the

>> i think it's just because of the insane hour of the morning it is. but, you know, winds should be around 5 to 10 miles per hour. ten mile-per-hour winds makes it feel coolerment i think you did bring warmer air down to d.c. it looks like the coldest of the air holds off until tomorrow. we should still be in the mid to upper 40s today. it will cool off later on in the day and a few flurries are possible. but that makes it even prettier down there than it already s our coldest air is sitting up across the northern plains. it is well below zero. high temperatures will be topping out around four below. we're looking for wind chills to be in the mid 20s below zero right now. so very frigid arctic air is working into the plains. it will start to spread eastward. it's going to be ten degrees in chicago today. but we're also looking at the chance of a few light snow showers tonight into tomorrow morning. mostly across new england. there is the chance we could end up with four to six inches of snow in that area. and as a lot of you know, that's

an area that's waiting for some of that snow. bill? >> thanks, dylan. doesn't look too bad in d.c. today. tomorrow will be a lot worse. let's turn now to sports. we begin, of course, with the championship football game. let's start with the afc. the ravens, huge underdogs against the patriots in foxboro. trip of the super bowl on the line. pats had never lost an afc championship game at home. they did lose to the ravens a couple years ago at home. that's the easy one there. the short touchdown pass from brady. patriots go up 13-7 at the half. a little fact, brady never lost at foxboro when leading at the half. that could change. flacco for the touchdown. and this one to go up. nice catch by antoine bolden. this puts them up by eight. 21-13. it's then 28-13. brady desperation, underthrown. game was pretty much overwith anyway. picked off by kerry william. that seals the victory. they shutout -- the ravens defense shutout the patriots

defense at home. baltimore headed to the first super bowl since they won it in 2000. ray lewis spoke about the win. >> last year when we walked up out of here, i told him, i said we'll be back. don't hold your heads down because we got something to finish. every man out there, man, sacrificed this year for each other. and, man, we did it. we did it. we did it. we're on our way to the super bowl, man. that's awesome. >> it's also worth noting the always pleasant bill belichick declined a postgame interview request from cbs. he did eventually though speak to the media after the game. >> there's a lot of plays in the game. there's a lot of things we could have done better, all of us. so i guess that just really wasn't good enough. wasn't as good as the ravens tonight. so that's why they're moving on and we're not. >> so ravens coach john harbaugh is super bowl bound.

earlier in the days i had little brother jim led the 49 nears the georgia dome to face the falcons. this was better of the two games. pick it up in the second quarter. matt ryan goes deep. julio jones gets both feet in. julio jones had an unstoppable first half of the game. incredible first half of the game. look at that. does a little tap dance. 17-0. but unfortunately, falcons having trouble holding on to leads this year. matt ryan fumbles the ball. they were up three at the time. that was very important. now frank gore untouched into the end zone after about the 12 yard line. this is the 49ers now. they're up three. flacco had a chance, fourth and four. he had to complete that and get first down. the ball was thrown past the first down marker anyway. that was it. they come back from a 17-0 deficit. 28-24. if you can believe this it's the first time in 18 years that the 49ers have been to the super bowl. and this year, it will be harbaugh verse harbaugh for the

lombardi trophy. here is jim harbaugh after the game. >> when you win a game like this, it's a team effort. everybody does a little and it adds up to be a lot. tremendous win for us. showed the resolve of the team. we continue in our humility and be ready to play another game in two weeks. >> now on the falcons side, tony gonzalez who has been mentioning he may retire, very emotional after the game following short of his super bowl opportunity. he spoke to reporters. >> emotional. it was, you know, probably the last time i'll wear that uniform. wear football pads and cleats. i didn't want to take it off, to tell you the truth. but, you know, all good things come to an end. and like i said, all season long at the end of the season this is probably my last one. so what an unbelievable ride.
